The punishment system on AuroraMC is designed to be fair and equal for all players of the community. When a player is punished, the length is automatically decided by the system based on previous punishments. The system will also automatically decide whether a warning is required before a punishment (ban/mute) is issued.

A punishment length can only go as high as 60 days, and no further. Once a player reaches the threshold where their punishment would be equal to; or longer than 60 days, the punishment will automatically be Permanent.

Additionally, our system has been developed in such a way that there may be additional information required. Therefore, when you receive a punishment, you may see one of three suffixes attached to the end of your punishment reason;

This additional tag means that your punishment was issued by a Junior Moderator and is awaiting approval from their supervisor. We have this in place to ensure that Junior Moderators can get feedback and that their punishments are as accurate as possible. If the issued punishment is found to have adequate evidence, it will be approved. Otherwise, it will be rejected and completely removed from your punishment history. You cannot appeal a punishment that is currently awaiting approval
As was mentioned above, if a punishment issued by a Junior Moderator is found to have adequate evidence, it will be approved. When this process happens the Awaiting Approval tag will be replaced with this one. If you believe that your punishment is still incorrect after this stage, please submit an appeal.
If the tag "[Report #]" with an additional number is attached to your punishment, it means that you were reported using our reports system and it was decided that you had broken the rules. If your punishment does not also have one of the above tags attached, the only way for you to dispute your punishment is through an appeal.

All enforcement of our rules is decided by the individual member of staff dealing with the situation. Punishments may vary depending on the context behind the situation. If you believe that a staff member is misusing their powers, please submit a support ticket with all relevant information and it will be investigated further from there.

Please note that punishments are issued to the account, and not the person. For this reason, unless you are breaking more rules or arguing your punishment, you will not be issued a punishment for simply logging in using another account whilst you are punished.

Inappropriate Usernames use a completely different punishment system from our normal system. Users who have an inappropriate name will have this username blacklisted from our network. This means that they will be unable to join our network whilst they still have this name. As soon as they change the name, they will then be able to join the network again automatically. Should anyone set their username to this same inappropriate name again in the future, they will automatically be unable to join the network, since the username is blacklisted.

punishment reasons & weights.png
There are multiple different reasons that you may have received a punishment on the network. These rules are categorised into three different categories- Chat, Game and Miscellaneous.

Additionally, there are 5 different weights that rules can have. As can be assumed, the worse the rule, the higher the weight, and as such the higher the weight the longer the punishment.

The weights that a rule can have and their initial punishment lengths, assuming no prior history, are:
Light - 3 hours
Medium - 1 day
Heavy - 14 days
Severe - 28 days
Extreme - Permanent

Our punishment lengths will double every time you receive a punishment of that weight in the same category. Lower punishments also increase the length of higher weighted lengths in the same category, however, we will not disclose how much they are affected.

Any punishment which reaches a length that is more than, or equal to 60 days, will result in the punishment becoming permanent, regardless of category or weight.

Please note that any rule with a weight of Extreme will ALWAYS result in an immediate permanent ban/mute.

Achieving a total of 5 Warning Points will result in a permanent forums ban. All warning points expire 60 days after they are applied to your account.

Any of the rules listed here apply everywhere on our website including, but not limited to, public threads, private messages, etc. If you are reported by another community member, and the message you sent was deemed to break our rules, you will be punished accordingly.

In some cases, when you are issued a warning on the forums, your message may be hidden from public view. Otherwise, a notice will be placed on top of your post warning others that your post was deemed inappropriate and you were issued warning points.

If you were issued a warning for Off-Topic/Spam Posts, it means that your post wasn't contributing anything to the thread it was posted on.

Players will receive 1 warning point upon receiving this warning.
If you were issued a warning for Necro Posting, it means that you posted on a thread that hasn't received a response in the past two months.

Players will receive 1 warning point upon receiving this warning. This rule does not apply to changelog/announcement threads.
If you were issued a warning for Personal Advertisement, it means that the content you posted on the forums did not fit one of the following categories:

- A link is posted on your profile and the content of any such profile is appropriate.
- A YouTube video is posted in the YouTube section of the forums that is appropriate.
- The link is for a post from an official AuroraMC Account/Website or a member of the AuroraMC Leadership Team.
- The link is not malicious and is appropriate for AuroraMC.
- The link is a direct link to the social media platform. Link Shorteners/Proxy links are not permitted.
- The advertisement in question does not fall under Corporate Advertising.

Players will receive 2 warning points upon receiving this warning.
If you were issued a warning for Bypassing the Filter, it means you used a word that would usually be filtered by adding, skipping or removing characters from a word.

Players will receive 3 warning points upon receiving this warning.
If you have been issued a warning for Inappropriate Behaviour, it means that you were making posts that are not appropriate for a gaming community.

Players will receive 4 warning points upon receiving this warning.
If you were issued a forum ban for Discrimination, it means that you were found to be directing discrimination at someone due to the fact that they belong to a protected group.
If you were issued a forum ban for Corporate Advertising, it means you were found advertising another company with the intention of gaining customers.

Saying stuff such as "I like x brand/business" would be perfectly fine and would not be against the rules. However, saying stuff such as "X business is so much better, go to them instead!" would be.
If you were issued a forum ban for Sharing Personal Information, it means you were maliciously giving out personal details of anybody.
If you were issued a forum ban for Bot Spam, it means that your account was used for the purpose of spamming our forums with bot messages.
If you are issued a forum ban for Bypassing your forum ban, both your new account and your old account will be permanently banned, regardless of whether the original ban was permanent.

On very rare occasions, a player may be issued with a type of ban known as a "Global Account Suspension" - This type of ban is for players who the AuroraMC Leadership Team believe should no longer be able to access our services in any capacity. Players who receive a Global Account Suspension will be permanently banned on all AuroraMC platforms. These include but are not limited to in-game, our website, our discord, our store, our social media accounts and any other platform we use.

Additionally, unlike other punishments where the punishment is linked to the account, this punishment is linked to the player, which means they will be unable to use other accounts to log in to AuroraMC. Any accounts associated or linked to a Globally Account Suspended user will receive an automatic permanent ban upon logging in.

Global Account Suspensions cannot be decided by one single person, they must pass a vote by the AuroraMC Leadership Team before they are issued. Reasons for a Global Account Suspension can vary a lot, but below are some of the most common reasons used.

If you have a lot of punishments, and it is clear that you are not going to improve your behaviour, LT may decide to issue you a Global Account Suspension.
If you are intentionally trying to start drama or generally disrupt the community in a non-constructive and malicious manner, LT may decide to issue you a Global Account Suspension.
If you are influential, for example by having a large following on social media like YouTube, if you use this influence for bad, LT may issue a Global Account Suspension. For example, someone encouraging hacking on our network could be issued a Global Account Suspension.
Staff members represent AuroraMC as a whole. If a staff member breaks the trust we create with them, then they are no longer welcome on the network. Any staff member caught abusing their permissions or breaking AuroraMC's rules may be issued a Global Account Suspension.

It is important to note that Global Account Suspensions are dealt with on a case-by-case basis. There are always individual nuances to each case we review which may alter the outcome. This means that two cases that look very similar to outsiders may result in completely different outcomes from the Leadership Team.

Appeals information.png
If you have been punished on one of our platforms and wish to appeal your punishment, or you believe that a punishment you have received is unjustified, you are able to appeal. Appeals are handled by our Quality Assurance team due to the fact that some information that may be required for appeals, such as anti-cheat logs, is only accessible by them.

If your punishment is issued by a Junior Moderator and is awaiting approval from our Staff Management team, please do not submit a punishment appeal. The reason that we ask you not to appeal whilst your punishment is awaiting approval is due to the fact that it may be marked as insufficient by their mentor, meaning your punishment will be removed anyway.

We allow you to successfully appeal a justified punishment once, with a two-week cooldown between each appeal. However, if you are appealing an unjustified punishment, you may appeal as many times as you need. If you are appealing a punishment you believe is unjustified, and your appeal is rejected, you may not appeal it again- However, if the justified punishment that you are appealing is Permanent, you may appeal it once every 2 months.

If you are appealing a justified punishment, you must wait at least two months before submitting an appeal. Failure to do so will result in your appeal being automatically declined, restarting the two month wait period.

Please note that if you are punished for a Compromised Account, you have 1 additional appeal that can be used for that punishment and that punishment only. If you are punished for a Compromised Account twice, your one justified punishment appeal will be used.

You should usually expect to wait a maximum of 72 hours before receiving a response to your appeal. Sometimes, your appeal will require us to look further into our anti-cheat logs or review the evidence attached to your punishment, which can cause it to take longer. If you haven't received a response within 72 hours, please submit a support ticket.
